All Aboard!
Imagination
takes Lynn students on an Academic Adventure. Warm tropical breezes,
sandy beaches, rainforests, and historic ruins serve as a
picture-perfect backdrop for the first-ever Lynn University Academic
Adventure. From January 6-11, 2003, Lynn students will cruise the
Atlantic Ocean aboard the cruise ship IMAGINATION for a five-day
international voyage. On the updated itinerary, students will
experience the culture and the
country of Belize, as well as the history of the United
States’ southernmost point, Key West.
The first stop aboard
the Academic Adventure will be Belize, where students will discover
the Mayan culture firsthand, as they walk among the ruins and
breathtaking temple complexes of the ancient civilization. Then
it’s off to Key West, where students will have the opportunity to
study one of literature’s greatest writers at Ernest
Hemmingway’s home and examine historic treasures from galleons
dating back to 1662.
Students will be
accompanied by Lynn faculty and staff while on their international
voyage and will also receive further on-board academic instruction
in conjunction with the land-based explorations. Additionally,
before students leave for their Academic Adventure, they will take
an in-depth look at the Mayan culture. Topics addressed will also
include commercial development and the economics associated with
tourism, as well as the delicate “balancing act” that must take
place to preserve pristine rainforest and coastline environments.
Students will receive academic credit for their studies and
successful completion of the Academic Adventure.
“The Academic Adventure provides students
with the opportunity to learn about other cultures, people and
places of the world,” said Jack Sites, executive vice president
and chief operating officer. “Instilling multiculturalism and
preparing students with a global perspective is a crucial aspect of
higher education in order to survive in today’s fast-paced,
ever-shrinking world. Lynn’s Academic Adventure takes students to
experience the world, combining academics with a global
perspective.”
Don’t miss the
boat… get a passport! All first-year Lynn students (fall 2002) are
required to participate in the Academic Adventure, and with the ship
scheduled to set sail in just a few months, all first-year students
must have a valid passport. So, before heading to campus this fall,
have a photo taken, complete the paperwork and get your passport so
that you don’t miss out on the ultimate international field trip!
Bon voyage!
